Knight Hacks is a 36-hour hackathon and is an official Major League Hacking member event for the 2019 Season. A hackathon is best described as an "inventing marathon" where students interested in technology come together to learn, develop their skills, and create. Students work around- the-clock in teams of up to four to develop a project before the end of the weekend. The environment of a hackathon is overwhelmingly positive, supportive, and educational. It's not just senior-level computer science majors in attendance — Knight Hacks welcomes students of all backgrounds, skill levels, and academic majors. We provide mentors, workshops, hardware to experiment with, access to APIs and cloud services, prizes, and most importantly, food! Above all, what makes Knight Hacks special is that it is 100% free-of-charge for all attendees, making the opportunity to learn available to everyone.

Background: In the past months, major cities across the US and the world have been devastated by hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. We know the road to recovery is long and people are facing significant challenges as they work to recover from these historic weather events. Our help is clearly needed now and will be needed in the future when another disaster strikes. Think about how technology can be used to aid cities impacted by natural disasters with relief and recovery. You can build off of one of the existing ideas already in the disaster relief technology landscape or come up with new ideas that address gaps in this space.
